WII turn off to fix?

ok, it was fine tonight and i turned it off to standby, my wiiconnect 24 is on, so the light was orange and was getting blue glow from disc port, went to turn it back on and it wouldnt turn green to go back on, so i held the button in on the console till it turned red and the blue light went off, then turned it back on and it works again now, was this the right thing to do?, i just dont wanna corrupt ne thing if it was during an update

hm it probably woulda been clever to leave it 4 a while but then again your probably an impatient astard like me n was *****in yourself thinkin you had broke the console
