You turn it with your hand and it will be laying on it's side.

Actually, that's not a vent. It's just a space for the flap to swing into (part of the hinge). Laying the Wii on its side won't affect it at all.

Whenever you see a hole like that on a console, it's usually a vent. But now that I look at it closer, I don't know what it is either. o.o

The vent is on the back of the system and has a grate pattern to it. It's not really a "hole."
Not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at though...
