Wii remote not working???

Hey guys my friend just brought over his Wii remote and he says it wont work, when you press any button on it there is not reaction. I tried pressing the red button on the lower back side of the Remote and all the 4 front lights flash blue and then stop after about 30 seconds.
So does anyone know whats wrong? Do you need to do something special to activate the remote???
Any help would be great.

Ok...

- Unplug and Replug Wii
- Change Batteries
- Press the Sinc button on the Wii (In the SD slot compartment at the front next to the Disc Drive) and the Disc button on the Wiimote at the same time.
- The lights will flash on the Wiimote
- Let it do it's stuff
- The first LED should light up.
- Your happy and playing your Wii

yeah but his freind will have to re-sycn with his wii. Instead just press home than remote options. then Reconnect and it works faster and better.
