It doesn't add any additional graphical detail.

I completely agree. The native resolution of the Wii is 480p. It can't go higher than that. So this gadget can only be an adapter to be able to connect it HDMI if you don't have a component or composite inputs. The quality should not be better than component 480p.

So it's an upscale but not really an upgrade if you're already using a component cable. But it might handy...

Yeah the reviews say its not the best.
I my self am to the best person to ask about what upscaling is?
Mainly due to me being more retro teched
 
ok.. i got mine..

i am very impressed...much better than component.

however for my nes games they were a bit dimmer and not as bright as component so i saw no benefit there..
however n64 games looked great too.
