Internet Connection: Wireless WEP Enabled

I wasn't sure weather to post this question in here or VC board but had decided upon this one. Today, after a long time period since I have been on the Wii, finally updated and obtained the Forecast channel as well as the News channel. I think proceeded to download the Internet Channel as well as the Everybody Votes channel. Now here is where the problem occurs.
When I try to go into the Internet, Everybody Votes or Forecast channel, my screen goes black, controllers turns off and this stays as such. I then, to get the Wii to operate again must manually go and turn the console off, and then turn it back on.
What could be the problem?
