The Nintendo Wii console will now be a permanent fixture in two Texas schools, thanks to the Lindale Independent School District Education. The organization has granted funding to some 23 teachers for the funding of classroom projects, including which are two Wii-based initiatives.

The recipients for the fundings were identified to be The Early Childhood Center, and the Lindale Primary School. Early Childhood Center teachers Cookie Hartley and June Wright took home US$ 1,021.40 for their Wii Can Do It! project, which makes use of the Wii games for therapeutic and instructional tools for preschoolers with disabilities.

Meanwhile, Cynthia Peters and Bobbie Williams of the Lindale Primary School were awarded US$ 1,121.30 for theiir Wii Fit, Wii Moving and Wii Happy programs. Through these activities, kids are able to "experience technology in a fun and creative way", as long as learn about teamwork, and building of self-esteem.

LISD Education Founder President John Driver presided in the awarding of the grants, which totalled some US$ 13,802.36 grants. "The enthusiasm of the donors who went with us and the teachers who received grants made for a very exciting morning," he said.
