Upcoming UK event suggests that Will Wright's hugely anticipated remains on course for launch this year...

To describe Spore as 'highly-anticipated' is far from an overstatement. The latest project from SimCity & The Sims creator Will Wright, Spore's procedural create-a-species gameplay has drawn plenty of superlatives ever since it was first unveiled nearly three years ago.

Whilst an exact release date has yet to be announced by publisher Electronic Arts, CEO John Riccitello did confirm back in June last year that the game was scheduled for launch in the 'early part of fiscal 2009', which begins on April 1st this year.

Since then, EA has been quiet on the subject, although the fact that an event is due to take place in London in mid-February suggests that Spore remains on track for release within months.

Expect additional information on the game to gestate and evolve in the coming weeks.
