Setting up two player Excite truck

We're Excite Truck newbies. My kids and I have played single player Excite truck, but can't seem to unlock the versus mode for two player. What are we doing wrong. Help... Wii (we) desperate !

just click home, and go to the wiimote settings(down) and then go to where it say reconect, and click 1 and 2 simutanesoly on the wii motes. it pretty much tells you how to do it.
