I have a component cable and have set the Wii to wide screen, however the picture doesn't fill the HDTV screen. Do you always get the bars on the sides of the TV screen?

No, that should not happen. It is very likely that your TV's aspect ratio is set to display 4:3 (standard) instead of 16:9 (widescreen). This is why the Wii tells you to set your TV to display widescreen when you set the widescreen option in the Wii settings. Consult your TV's instruction manual for further info.

Thanks for the quick response. It took a little bit for me to figure it out, but had to set the picture size to theater. Much better, but its definately different to play on, will have to adjust. Thank you again....
