Problem with WII responding to new TV

We just bought a new 60" plasma LG TV. We hooked up our WII and tried to play Mario Bro II, we have the recommended cables that the guy at BEST BUY said we needed and hooked them up....however we still have a slight delay/lag in the response to the controller and the on screen action....I have gone through the set up numerous times to change all the setting to best handle our new TV...all of that seems to have helped, but not eliminate the delay/lag...need some suggestions...Mario Bro II is our main game we play
