Nintendo has announced today that it’s inviting fans to share their love for Mario with the rest of the world in a special video competition to celebrate Mario’s, get this, 25th anniversary! Yes, hard to believe but the beloved plumber has been entertaining gamers the world over for a quarter of a century, along with his brother Luigi and friends such as Yoshi and Princess Peach of course! Created by Shigeru Miyamoto and his team at Nintendo, Mario and Luigi first appeared on the Nintendo Entertainment System in Super Mario Bros., and the world has been a much happier place ever since!
Unsurprisingly, the Super Mario Bros. series is the best-selling video game series of all time, with more than 240 million units sold worldwide. Here’s the great man himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, General Manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis and Development division, talking about his legendary creation:
“Stimulated by advancements in technologies, we have always enjoyed creating the Super Mario Bros. games. The series has always taken advantage of the latest technological advancements and is the fruit of creativity of many of my hard-working friends working closely as a team”.
