Word has got out of a new patent (Patent No. 20070123353) Nintendo has filed which will allow users to send online game invitations to friends that they can see logged into the server. Take for example, you're playing Mario Strikers and your buddy is playing Pokémon Battle Revolution, you could according to this patent invite your mate to play Mario Strikers with you.

…users may be playing a game and be invited to play another different game (without rebooting the machine etc)…By providing, among other things, an invitation server that keeps track of accepted invitations, users can be conveniently and, if desired, automatically joined to a game being played by another user, even if a game system is turned off and then back on.

The patent has recently been published but was filed last year, is this an indication of where Nintendo's taking the Wii and the future of its online games?
