new to Wii and online gaming

I'm just getting started with wii and online gaming and I have a few questions. If I buy a game that is online compatable such as Black ops, do I just load it, select online game and start playing, or is that to easy? If your playing a game online are you only playing people with a wii or is it run thru a central server and you play people with other brands of game stations. I'm already on the internet and watching netflix but wanted to see if there are any other connections or things I need to do.

you only play with people who have the wii version of the game. your wii must be connected to the internet, and it's free. that's all there is to it.
