VG24/7 reports today on a new rumour from GameTrailers’ editor-in-chief Shane Satterfield, who says that GameTrailers has heard from “certain channels” that the Wii U will be priced at $299 when it goes on sale later this year. This is the latest of several rumours to emerge about the retail price of Nintendo’s next console, with Amazon Germany being previously reported as advertising the Wii U on their site for €349, and listing games for the equivalent of $100, which GameStop has also listed. VG24/7 says that Nintendo has said that the game prices are “fictitious”. Meanwhile, TG Daily says that EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich has said that despite Nintendo being “incredibly vague”, he expects that Nintendo will officially announce the Wii U’s price in September, possibly to tie in with the Tokyo Game Show. As TG Daily notes, if the Wii U costs more than $250, which many expect it will, it will be the most expensive console ever released by Nintendo. Divnich says that the touch-screen controller is pushing up the price, because it is pretty much a mini gaming system itself, meaning that you are paying for two consoles when you buy the Wii U.
