Net connection

Hey ya'll, I'm planning on getting a Wii today but I had a question that I can't find the answer to.

To download the virtual console games, you have to be connected to the internet. I however, do not have a connection at home. Could I, theoretically, go to a place that does have internet connection (friends house), hook up my Wii, download the games, and then go home and play them?
