CVG has a very interesting report that picks up on a remark made by THQ supremo Brian Farrell, that could be an indication that Nintendo is about to unveil its next console. According to CVG, Farrell was giving a financial presentation at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference last Wednesday, and during the presentation he said that THQ was not expecting to see a new home console “anytime soon from either Microsoft or Sony.” All well and good, but notice the big, glaring omission there from Farrell? Yep, no mention of Nintendo. Farrell then went even further, adding: “It’s difficult on Nintendo – we’ll let them announce their new hardware.” This particular quote was in response to an investor’s question about new hardware announcements.
Very intriguing! And it follows on from comments made during a recent video interview with CNBC by head of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, also reported in CVG, where he said that the Wii 2 will not just be an HD upgrade, but will also “add more capability”. Just to throw a spanner in the works though, Fils-Aime also said “we’ll do that when we totally tapped out all of the experiences for the existing Wii and we are nowhere near doing that yet, so lots of ongoing opportunity for the consumer in the current generation.”
