How the FORK do you do the fishing!?

Ive only just gotten my fishing rod and apparently need to catch a fish for this pesky cat!! I know how to cast it, and i can get to the point where it says 'Fish On!' or sumthing similar. But how on earth do I reel it in properly!?
Ive pretty much thrown my Wii-mote through the loungeroom wall trying to figure it out!!!! Any help appreciated... surely there is a technique to it that I'm missing...

Hold the Wii in the air as high as you can while having your body stay in the same position to catch the fish. The first fishing pole doesn't have a reel so yea. And the cat needs 2 fish.

yea, just hold it up and angled slightly back, and you'll just automatically pull until you pull the fish onto land.
