How Do You Get Wii Points?

Like I know you buy them at wal-mart or whatever and it comes in a card.
But then what?
Do you put the card it a slot?
Is there a code you enter? If so, where?

It's like a prepaid phone card, there's a code on the back, you go online and enter the code. Viola, you have your points.

You can just buy them over the net as well through the Wii Shop.
