Help with online?!

All this talk about online from you guys is making me jealous.
I go to Wifi. Go to normal brawl. select a character...and wait.......Nothing happens..noone joins...is there anyone playing???
How do i get in a diff match and whatnot??? I WANNA PLAY ONLINE.
and NO i have good interternet so Im not gonna add to the LAG everyone is reporting.
