If you by the cables that have 480p or w/e, do you need an HD Tv to experience the full effect? ( I havent bought the cords yet)

Pretty much, regular tube TV's are 480i. The component cables use the 3 cords. So make sure you got that connection

there are tvs that have the component imput but no progressive scan. try to be shure they are progressive scan.so you can find a not HD TV for your component cables.
