not only that, but they've got so much money invested in making blu-ray and blu-ray players...those things are so expensive and people aren't ready to run out and get one JUST YET. Mostly because the tv manufacturers haven't dropped their prices on HD TVs yet.

The 15-20 years of licensing fees that would come with consumer acceptance of Blue ray is simply too juicy to ignore. Also remember that Sony is a large content distributor so they want the DRM that comes with blue-ray very badly. When you consider the laws being negotiated in europe and think of the DRM in blue-ray as a way of preemptively enforcing those laws then using the PS3 as a loss leader for getting people hooked on the blue-ray addiction and it makes perfect sense.

They can afford to be third place in the console wars for a long time to get their hands on the ultimate prize.

i dont know but all this blu ray thing i thinks is a ALL OR NOTHING move by sony beacuse the blu ray v/s HDdvd war it`s not over yet and it`s nowhere near =S because if the HDdvd won the ps3 will be a failure, but if the blu ray won the ps3 could have a chance to increase the sells

The PS2 is still going strong and Sony is making money. It would be retarded for Sony to kill the PS2 because it would force many to buy the PS3 if they want new games and it won't happen.

Its a double edged sword....Sony wants money but they want it from the PS3 component of their company. Instead they're losing money from it. And more and more people are sticking with PS2. They have no one to blame but themselves. They created a horrible system with a bunch of gizmos that most people really don't need or care about. In addition they blantly copied stuff from Nintendo and more recently Microsoft and yet they try to pass it off as something "creative". BULLSH*T. We all know what Sony is and what they represent. Only Sony fanboys can continue to defend this piece of sh*t company and the ridiculous things they continue to say.
