A few weeks ago my Wii showed an error in the middle of playing Call of Duty. After that it wouldn't read any discs. It showed the "Cannot read disc" message no matter what game I put in, Wii or Gamecube. I sent it in to Nintendo and they sent it back, claiming it was "bricked".
When I got it back (two weeks after I sent it in, this was during the big Midwest snowstorm) I tried it again and it actually read the discs. However, when I tried to load the games it showed the same error and stopped reading all discs again. I also tried to eject the Call of Duty game when I was "testing" it and the hardware failed; I had to push the CD back in and now it's scratched.
I haven't opened the Wii and I don't know exactly what the problem is, so I really just want to know if a new disc drive could potentially fix my problem.
Note: there is no homebrew on my Wii and it was not the cause of the original problem.
