Jamie here. I just wanted to throw out this info about the companies and how they wasted SO much money on the PS3 based off of the PS2's sales figures. Everybody is scrambling to jump on the Wii now because it is insanely outselling the other systems. Also, giants like EA and Ubisoft are set to put out a dozen games this year just on the Wii!!! If you liked games like Godfather and Tiger Woods '07, get ready because EA bought a studio just for development on the Wii!! Well, here's the article. Read it and post your thoughts here, later.

Great news! I hope the wii can keep this pace up.

WII FTW

Nintendo's estimated to pull in $8 billion this year. That means they finally topped EA which held the #1 spot pulling in over $1 billion per year for 7 years. Reggie was right, the market has been shrinking year on year. It's clear Nintendo regrew the market with new/returning gamers. This means companies have to rethink what gamers want. It's clear the old attitudes of appeasing the hard core gamer do not pull in stable profit at $60 a game.

For the short term, companies should rethink their stance on Nintendo. The current popularity of the Wii still has not proven it has any longevity.

And EA is notorious for making crap games. Anyone who plays video games can tell you that. EA basically has a game mill that puts out a ton of games, most of which are pure crap. It's not surprising to see EA try to jump on the bandwagon. EA is after as money hungry as any other game studio in the in the industry.

And last but not least, hard core gamers still need to be appeased. They keep the industry going during lean times.

People said the same thing about the iPod and look where that is....

What's wrong with EA jumping on the bandwagon? That's what Nintendo needs. They have put out what is one of, if not the best game so far for the Wii, The Godfather. Madden 08 was pretty cool as well. The Wii needs support from companies like EA to survive.

I had pretty much given up on gaming until I heard about the Wii. So I'm a prime example of Nintendo bringing a gamer back with the Wii.

I happen to think EA puts out great games. Just look at what they have done so far for the Wii. Outside of the Nintendo titles EA hands down has the best 3rd party Wii titles (Madden,Blur,Godfather,Tiger Woods.) In my opinion EA has always made some of the best sports games around and the Wii is built for great sports games. I think the move by EA is a smart move and a good move for the Wii as well.

I too think that it's great. Thing about it is everything has been based on popularity, reason being, popularity means sales. Ipod has hit over 100 million Ipods sold! The aftermarket auto industry recognizes Honda for its popularity and floods the market with TONS of Honda accessories. This will always be what fuels ANY industry. Why would you pour money into KMart when Wal-Mart is where majority of people shop? EA and all other game makers should jump aboard because this way, the Wii will stay popular. People flocked to PS2 because it had a HUGE library of games. If you wanted a RPG, free roaming, action, racing, driving, shooter, survival horror, or whatever, it was there. That's why any and all companies should follow suit and jump on board.

EA has been #1 in sales for too many years. Last year they made a new game every 3rd day! I'm glad they finally got dethroned this year (Based on current market projections). I'm also hoping Sony or Microsoft will knock Activision off the #2 now #3 spot. The top two for many years have been EA and Activision. Towards the bottom of the top 20 list is Midway and Atari. NC Soft, and Vivendi(They own Blizzard) have been climbing the list year on year. THQ, Ubisoft are somewhere in the mix, and the big 3, Capcom, Konami, Square have been steadily holding the middle of the top 20. Namco and Sega could be fighting for last place this year.

That article made me tingly inside. It doesn't matter if you think EA makes crappy games or if you think EA makes amazing games. The point is that one of the largest companies making games is putting alot of resources towards the Wii, and they are being very successful in their sales. It would be stupid for a major developer to ignore the massive amount of people who will and do own Wiis. You can't argue with numbers.

I am also in Tarheels' club for people who lost interest in console gaming until the Wii.

the wii is bringing in all kinds of gamers who normally wouldn't have bought the system. I have always been a huge sega fan and was brought into the clutches of the wii because it offers me fun gameplay. I don't care about graphics.
